Construction- Day 10

The painting is done on the outside wall as you can see below. It matches the rest of the room perfectly. It is hard to imagine that two doors were there before.

The lighting has been finished in the closet.

The paint color will be changed tomorrow. I picked a new color on Friday. Pictures will be put up as soon as it is on the walls. The room should be finished by mid-week. We also spent a lot time in the past few days dealing with carpet samples (as you can see above). We have put a deposit down with Luna to do the two rooms downstairs. They don't offer the type of carpet that we want on our stairs so we will most likely be going with a local business here in Lockport. They are coming out in the morning to measure and give us an estimate.

If all goes well the rooms and stairs will be finished by the end of the month.

Construction- Day 9

The paint went on the walls yesterday! Rick and I were very excited to get home and see it...only to be disappointed with the pain color we had chosen. It did grow on us slightly, but after talking to Kevin we are going to change it. Unfortunately, the decision of what color to change it to caused us a lot of stress last night.

We also went to a local carpet place to look at carpets and get an estimate on doing the downstairs and the stairs. It was more than we were hoping for and that additionally caused stress. The project and gone so smoothly, but now that we are down to the decorating choices we are really struggling to make decisions!

Two lights in the closet instead of one.

The outside wall with its first coat of paint! It is almost hard to remember that there were two doors before.
The color inside the room. It actually looks better with all of the natural light, but we usually keep these blinds closed because it is at ground level and we don't want people looking in our house.

Just another view (hard to see the color though) with the light coming in the room.

Construction- Day 8

We aren't exactly sure what was done today so I couldn't take many pictures. The only things we could spot were that the door frames were put back on and added to the closet. Hopefully we will see more progress tomorrow!

Irony?

Construction- Day 7

The closet doors have been put into the closet and the ceiling is more even! We have three days left until the room will be finished! It is hard to believe. Here are a few pictures from today.

Closet doors attached to the closet.

The ceiling is a more even than it was before. The rooms were apparently a different height so Kevin has been evening them out as much as possible. It is almost impossible to tell in the picture, but we can tell when we look at it here.

This is the paint color we have chosen for the room. The maroon is what is currently in the basement and will stay. I know it is hard to really see true colors in a picture, but at least compared to what is already there you might be able to visualize.

And now for my favorite thing that Kevin did today! This might not seem like anything, but the electricity now works in this outlet! When we moved in this outlet worked, then it broke, then we paid a lot of money to have it fixed. Then it BROKE AGAIN!!! Kevin knew exactly what was wrong with it almost immediately and fixed it today. I am so happy to have electricity in the island again!

Homemade Spinach Ravioli

Rick and I made ravioli yesterday. Rick was in charge of making the pasta and I did the filling and put the ravioli together.

The end product was very good. It was a lot of work, but worth it. Next time we are going to try meat filling instead of spinach and cheese.

Construction- Day 6

Obviously most of the major changes have taken place, but here are a few pictures from the progress made on Friday. It is about ready to prime and then paint. We are looking at 4 more days of work to complete the room. Rick and I are getting very excited and it seems to be coming together really well!

Sorry this is kind of hard to see.

Today Rick and I bought a number of new things for the house. We purchased new blinds for the new bedroom. When we first moved in we just bought cheap ones to have the windows covered but now we want to do it right. We bought a new vent cover for the basement that will be easier for Rick to open and we bought the beginnings of a closet organizer system. Kevin, our contractor, will be putting the closet in. We only bought one shelf and rod for clothes to get started but at least the supports will be hung.
