Construction- Day 6

Obviously most of the major changes have taken place, but here are a few pictures from the progress made on Friday. It is about ready to prime and then paint. We are looking at 4 more days of work to complete the room. Rick and I are getting very excited and it seems to be coming together really well!

Sorry this is kind of hard to see.

Today Rick and I bought a number of new things for the house. We purchased new blinds for the new bedroom. When we first moved in we just bought cheap ones to have the windows covered but now we want to do it right. We bought a new vent cover for the basement that will be easier for Rick to open and we bought the beginnings of a closet organizer system. Kevin, our contractor, will be putting the closet in. We only bought one shelf and rod for clothes to get started but at least the supports will be hung.

Construction- Day 5

It was finally drywall day! The closet has been enclosed (minus the doors) and the second door has been closed up! The holes in the wall and ceiling are gone. I think the room now looks bigger than it did before. It is weird for us to think that a week ago it was two separate rooms!

View from the rest of the basement. Only one door now!

Same view but from the inside of the room.

The closet with drywall and a light!
The ceiling no longer has a hole.

Rick did a little work of his own. He took one of the old light fixtures from the rooms we are remodeling and moved it to the laundry room. I don't have a before picture, but this is a nice improvement!

Construction- Day 4

My predictions of drywall happening today was inaccruate...shocking, I know! Electricity did happen today though. You will be able to tell from the pictures that electricity is now working in the closet. Also, the overhead light has been moved over to the center of the room.

Light switch for the closet.

Closet with a working light.

This is on the wall next to the closet and the remaining door. I suppose he used this hole to move the electricity to the closet.

This is the ceiling. The light is now in the correct location. It was moved from the center of one of the rooms (the room without a window). We bought a ceiling fan to go here.

This is the nice and neat pile of trash in the room. There used to be just a shot vac, but now there is a broom. He seems to be very clean and neat, which we really like!

Maybe tomorrow really will be drywall??

Construction- Day 3

Today the old door got framed out. Looks like it is ready for dry wall.
View from outside of the room.

View from inside the room.

More framing was done on the closet. The light switch location was put in (I am sure that has a techinal name that I don't know). After electricity is run to the box it looks ready for drywall.
Of course, the idea that the things are ready for drywall is all my uneducated observation of this project. I am positive there is much more work that goes into all of this than I know.

Bike Riding!

On Saturday afternoon we attempted to take Alex outside to ride his new "bicycle". He always calls it a bicycle, not a bike.

Rick taking everything downstairs!

He really looks like he is going pretty quickly. We were sure to keep a hold of him on our steep driveway.

This is how we spent most of the time, trying to keep his feet on the pedals.

Then we took a break to go see if the hose was there so Alex could spray it like he did this summer.

Back to bike riding! He does look very determined like he is really riding, but not so much! He would still like the bike to pedal itself. By summer he will be ready!

Construction-Day 2

Rick did some construction of his own on Sunday. He cut up the 2x4's so that they were smaller and could be thrown out easier. Here are a few pictures of him at work.

And here is the update of day 2 of the basement project. The closet is being framed out and the closet doors got their own frame. I guess this took longer than he expected.

Construction- Day 1

Rick and I have decided to have some construction done in our basement. We are knocking out the wall between the two small rooms and adding a closet. Obviously, the second door has to be closed up and a lot of electrical work done to make it one room. The contractor we hired started today and here are a few pictures of the work that has been done. I will continue to take pictures along the way to show progress.

The door on the left has been taken off, this is the door that will be walled. You can see into the room that the wall is gone, as is the carpet.

From the door looking to the right.

Looking to the left from the same point as the above picture.
A view of the entire room. This is from the window looking across the room.
And the garbage from today. Carpet and a wall and many other things that I probably don't understand or know about!
