Miles for Maria!!

I have been spending a lot of time working on an event at school that Student Council is planning called Miles for Maria. It is a walk/run that will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. After a lot of planning the event will take place next Friday, May 15th.

Maria is one of my students and she has Cystic Fibrosis. The Student Council decided to name the event in her honor. I have spent a lot of time going back and forth deciding on how to make the event work best. We decided to have three different age groups. A $5 donation is required to enter. A $15 donation gets you into the race and a t-shirt.

So far, we have had about 85 students sign up to participate from just our school. We have invited other schools. I just heard today that the middle school might be bringing as many as 75 students also! The community support in Downers Grove and especially among the teachers is great! The Downers Grove Reporter is doing a news story on Maria and her family to help promote the event as well.
