Camp Edwards

Here are just a few pictures from my trip to Camp Edwards with my 6th graders. We went with two other schools in Downers Grove. This trip is focused on studying four of the ecosystems- the Hardwood Forest, the Pine Forest, the Marsh, and the Prairie. I got to teach about the Prairie. It was mostly dead by this time of the year, but we taught either way!
This is one of the students drawings of the prairie from the distance.

This was my teaching partner for the trip, Jeanne.

Trying to identify plants in the prairie.

Playing a game about predators and prey in the prairie!

Henry Puffer 6th Graders!!

There are these awesome slides at the camp. Here are a couple of action shots. Even in the action setting on my camera this is the best shots I could get...I think it shows just how fast we were going down the slide!

My turn!!!

BINGO Night!!!

The prize for winning was a hug (aka a bottle of juice!)

This is how we all felt at the end of the week!!

Apple Pie!

Before our discovery of the Cub's logo, Rick and I rode our bikes to the Apple Orchard! We got a bunch of apples and tonight I made an apple pie. Aunt Maryanne gave me a recipe.

Before!

After (cooling by the window)

We haven't tried it yet, but it smells good!

Go Cubs!!!

This morning Rick looked out our spare bedroom to see our neighbor hard at work spray painting his driveway. It didn't take long to figure out it was going to be the Cub's logo.
Rick and I left to run some errands and pick up Megan but when we came back it was completed. Here are some pictures of the completed piece of art!
Megan is a Sox fan :(
But she told us tonight that she might become a Cub's fan!

Megan checked the mail while they waited for me to come out for a picture!

Puffer Fest 2008!

Saturday was Puffer Fest at my school. Alex and Jackie joined us and we had a wonderful time!

Alex got three or four tattoos throughout the day...they only had butterflies.

Rick tried to teach Alex to play hockey. Notice Rick trying to avoid getting hit by the stick.

More luck this time!

There was a game where you could race putting a tire on and off of a fake car...like in Nascar. It was attached to a compressor and very loud. Alex did not like it at first and was quite startled when he got close. He eventually came around.

Alex giving Rick quite a look.

This is the cookie station. Alex loved the sprinkles on his cookie. Luckily we made our cookie when we did. The gummy bears and other candies were quickly melting in the heat.

Alex sharing his cookie!

Alex loves watching Rick pull a quarter out from behind his ear.
Here is Alex showing off the quarter.

Life is busy...

Rick and I have been very busy lately. It seems we are rarely home. Work is going well for both of us. This weekend we will be going to Puffer Fest at my school, then stopping by the hospital to visit one of my students, and finally on to Chesterton for my dad's birthday! I am sure I will have pictures from all of it! I will do my best to get them posted!!!

Another new recipe!

I made another new pasta recipe for Rick. I thought it would be a good idea to take a picture to compare it to the picture. But, not only does it not look like the picture in the book, but it looks just like the other recipe I made.
Even if they look the same, this one tasted different and actually much better!

Laura and Dave's Wedding!!

Last weekend we went to Laura and Dave's wedding in Racine, Wisconsin! Laura was one of my RA's my first year as a hall director at Ball State. We were so happy to share her wedding day with her.

The wedding was just a few blocks from Lake Michigan. We were early so we took some pictures of the Lake. (to the south)

And to the north!

This is me by the Lake. Rick took quite a few pictures...it was rather embarrasing.

Rick's turn!

Using the timer with the camera on the car!

Laura and her dad walking down the aisle. She looked so beautiful and happy!
